I have met so many people who don't have working smoke alarms, nor do they practice fire drills. It's a cross between complacency and ignorence. Many people don't think that a fire could occur in their home. This is a deadly assumption. I'm sure that you remember how to 'stop, drop and roll', but it doesn't end there. That's only the beginning. An overloaded outlet can spark a fire, a pile of oil soaked rags in a trashcan can start a fire, not properly cleaning out the lint screen in your dryer can start a fire, leaving plastic containers on your stovetop while using the oven can start a fire....the risks are everywhere.

Burns from a fire can lead to serious if not fatal health complications, long-term hospital stays, thousands of dollars worth of health care and emotional strain. Smoke inhalation can also do serious damage to your body. Why take a risk? Get a working smoke detector for every level of your home. If you are confused as to where to put the smoke detector, call your local fire depatrment; they would be more than glad to help. In a lot of areas, the law states that you have to have a carbon monoxide detector as well. These simple detectors can save your family from carbon monoxide poisoning, which leads to extensive brain damage and death if exposed for too long. Don't have any escape plans if that smoke detector goes off? Make one. Visit the listed links to make a personalized fire escape plan for you and your family. Don't take the risk!!! Participate with members of your family and local fire department. Together, you can save lives; your own.

Arson suspected in west end fires  Aug 10, 2007 06:53 AM Toronto Star

Police are searching for a possible arsonist after three small fires were set in the Queen St. W. and Dufferin St. area this morning. Fire crews responded to a garage fire at new rowhouses under construction around on Florence St., near Dufferin St., 2:45 a.m., Toronto Fire Services said. Around 4:30 a.m., two small fires – believed to be burning garbage – were set minutes apart around the intersection of Queen and Lisgar Sts. The fires have all been extinguished and no injuries have been reported.

On July 31, eleven small fires - mostly involving dumpsters - broke out overnight in the area of Liberty Village, around Dufferin and King Sts. Those fires were comparable to other suspected arsons this summer in the Bloor West Village, Christie Pits and Cabbagetown, which have all seen a similar rash of fires lit over a brief period of time in the past two months.

I came across this video on the net. I can tell its a fake, but it is very well done. See for yourself.

This video was taken from inside the mine where workers are trapped 1,500 fett below the surface. At the time of this posting, it is still not known if the workers are still alive.

Now this is messed up. A woman in Moscow is keeping 130 cats in her apartment...130!!!

This one is heartwarming. Two guys had reared this lion from birth. They released him but returned a year later to check up on the lion. what a reunion!
